Everyone is Protected by Sexual Harassment Laws

The story is familiar. Employees sexually harassing a colleague once it is revealed that the colleague is a former exotic dancer. The employees believe this gives them license to treat their colleague in a derogatory fashion.

This story, however, has a twist. The former exotic dancer is Roy E. Dreshman Jr, a former male exotic dancer. Mr. Dreshman paid his way through nursing school by using the money he earned as an exotic dancer. Mr. Dreshman has now filed suit against his former employer, the director of nursing, and head administrator.

The suit alleges that Mr. Dreshman “was constantly asked about his past job, proposition and not taken seriously when he gave orders in his capacity as a [Registered nurse].” A female colleague of Dreshman’s even went so far as to seek out his services as a dancer for her girlfriend’s bachelorette party.

Allegedly, the harassment did not end at verbal taunts but also included physical contact as well. The complaint alleges that Mr. Dreshman was slapped and pinched on the buttocks.

As with many sexual harassment situations, the employer did not take Mr. Dreshman’s complaints seriously and did nothing to stop or prevent the harassment. Mr. Dreshman has now been forced to take his claims to court.

Sexual harassment laws are intended to protect all individuals in the work place. Regardless of your gender, if you have been subjected to sexual harassment, you may have a claim against your employer.
